Chelsea vs. Luton Town
Those that gambled on Chelsea assets were not disappointed in the first game of the week, with the Blues comfortable 3-0 winners.
Raheem Sterling put in arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt, scoring twice and assisting another to earn a 19 point haul.
Nicolas Jackson recovered from a disappointing first half to open his Chelsea account, converting from close range late on.
Jackson on the whole has performed well this season, but I’m not personally convinced he is going to score the goals a Chelsea striker is required to.
Malo Gusto at £4.0m produced the goods for owners, returning two assists and two bonus points alongside a routine clean sheet.
With a Reece James’ return on the horizon though he isn’t a long-term pick.
Ben Chilwell again found himself in some incredible positions, wasting one incredible opportunity in particular.
You do feel the points will come with Chilwell and he and Sterling for me are the two best Chelsea assets to own ahead of their nice run.
Bournemouth vs. Tottenham
Ange-ball shows no sign of coming to a halt at Tottenham as they comfortably beat Bournemouth on Saturday.
James Maddison recovered from his minor injury was the star of the show, scoring one and probably should have had more than his 10 point showing.
Elsewhere Destiny Udogie is proving to be a real bargain defensive option, providing his first attacking return of the season in the win.
Udogie assisted Dejan Kulusevski’s second half strike and the £4.5m option alongside Maddison are the two best Spurs picks.
Richarlison continues to struggle and a booking combined with an early withdrawal meant he failed to trouble the FPL points this week.
Arsenal vs. Fulham
Arsenal assets again disappointed this week, with Bukayo Saka the only popular pick to score points.
Saka was perhaps fortunate with his return, converting from the spot, taking the penalty ahead of Martin Odegaard who scored in GW2.
Saka was at fault for Fulham’s early opener and despite scoring twice this season, his stats aren’t impressive. Despite that he’s an easy hold ahead of Manchester United in GW4, a side that will have no recognised left-back and Raphael Varane.
Gabriel Martinelli on the other hand is on the chopping block. The Brazilian has just one assist this season and his performances usually drop off without the presence of his international team-mate Gabriel Jesus in the side.
Martinelli had four shots against Fulham in GW3, but didn’t register one over 0.13XG.
Defensively Arsenal look suspect in their new system and I’d expect them to revert back to their usual set-up against Manchester United, with Oleksandar Zinchenko fit again.
Manchester United vs. Nottingham Forest
The points finally came for Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes owners, with both returning twice in their comeback win over Nottingham Forest.
Rashford provided two assists, including one for Fernandes’ match winning penalty. Fernandes also assisted Casmeiro’s equaliser, on route to a 12 point haul.
Going forward I’m considering offloading Rashford with Maddison and Sterling seemingly better picks. If I had Fernandes though he’d be a hold.
Nottingham Forest had made a ridiculous start at Old Trafford and were 2-0 up inside of four minutes. Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring for the visitors, finding the net for a seventh consecutive Premier League match.
Sheffield United vs. Manchester City
Erling Haaland showed he is human on Sunday, missing a first half penalty in Manchester City’s late 2-1 victory.
Haaland did go onto open the scoring, but returned just four points in GW3, the same as Phil Foden who produced an assist in a late cameo.
Manchester City were in complete control for the majority of the match; however only led by one going into the final minutes.
Jayden Bogle sent the roof off Bramall Lane with an 85th minute equaliser. Their joy was short lived though and just three minutes later, the impressive Rodri smashed home.
Rodri appears to have more of a licence to get forward this season, with summer signing Mateo Kovacic the more defensive of the two. Surprisingly after three game weeks, Rodri is the joint highest points scorer, level with Brighton’s Solly March.
Newcastle United vs. Liverpool
Should Liverpool’s win over Newcastle United not be comeback of the season, then we will have witnessed something very impressive.
A man and a goal down for over an hour, Liverpool somehow rallied to earn an incredible 2-1 win at St. James Park.
Antony Gordon has started the season well and he opened the scoring for Newcastle, before Virgil van Dijk was sent off just a few minutes later for a foul on Alexander Isak.
Newcastle missed numerous chances, with Alisson superb between the sticks once again for Liverpool.
The visitors hadn’t looked like scoring themselves though until the introduction of Darwin Nunez off the bench. Nunez was at his chaotic best on Sunday, scoring twice late on.
From an FPL perspective Nunez definitely remains a wait and see with it probable he’ll remain a substitute in GW4.
Elsewhere
Bryan Mbeumo blanked for the first time this season as Brentford were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace.
Kevin Schade opened the scoring with a superb solo goal, but Palace deserved the point given to them by defender Joachim Andersen.
Everton were once again wasteful in front of goal as they were beaten without scoring for a third consecutive match.
Jose Sa was excellent for Wolves, making seven saves. Sasa Kalajdzic scored his first Wolves goal off the bench in the 89th minute to complete the smash and grab.
There was another smash and grab job in GW3, with West Ham beating Brighton 3-1 at the Amex despite just 22% possession.
West Ham were excellent on the break through out and two returns from Jarrod Bowen means he’ll be a popular pick ahead of a trip to Luton Town in GW4.
Burnley remain without a point since their return to the Premier League as they were easily beaten 3-1 at home by Aston Villa.
Matty Cash was the star of the show, scoring twice from a wing-back position, with Moussa Diaby scoring once and assisting another.
